Will Toronto’s ban on hookah and shisha smoking in nightclubs go up in smoke?
Ryan Zigler, a lawyer representing four Scarborough lounge owners, is arguing that the ban on hookah use in city-licensed businesses, passed by city council last fall, should be scrapped.

Lawyers for the City of Toronto will present their case to Justice Robert Goldstein of the Superior Court of Justice on Aug. 22.
The city has agreed not to take action against Toronto hookah lounges until the judge rules on the challenge. The ban, triggered by a request from Toronto’s medical officer of health, was to have taken effect April 1.
